“The missionary life and ministry of Jesus” John1:14, 20:21
오늘 아침 설교 제목은 “예수님의 선교적 삶과 사역”입니다. 성부 하나님께서는 본래부터 ‘선교적인’ 하나님이십니다. 하나님께서 ‘선교적인’ 하나님이심을 가르쳐주는 라는 성경 말씀 세 곳을 인용합니다. “땅의 모든 족속이 너를 인하여 복을 얻을 것이니라”(창12:3). “내가 또 너로 이방의 빛을 삼아 나의 구원을 베풀어서 땅 끝까지 이르게 하리라”(사49:6). “너는 일어나 저 큰 성읍 니느웨로 가서 외치라”(욘1:2). 성자 예수님께서는 성부 하나님의 ‘선교’를 수행하시기 위해서 세상에 오셨습니다. 예수님께서 이렇게 말씀하셨습니다. “예수께서 이르시되 나의 양식은 나를 보내신 이의 뜻을 행하며 그의 일을 온전히 이루는 이것이니라”(요4:34). “너희에게 평강이 있을찌어다 아버지께서 나를 보내신 것 같이 나도 너희를 보내노라”(요20:21). 성자 예수님께서는 성부 하나님의 일을 이루시기 위해서 성부 하나님의 “보내심을 받아” 세상에 오셨습니다. 선교사란 선교를 수행하기 위해서 누군가의 “보냄을 받은” 사람을 말합니다. 그러므로 성자 예수님은 성부 하나님의 ‘선교’를 수행하기 위해서 성부 하나님의 보내심을 받은 최초의 선교사라고 할 수 있습니다.
The subject of my message is “The missionary life and ministry of Jesus” God the father was from the beginning a ‘missionary’ God. I am going to quote three passages which speak about the ‘missionary’ God. “All peoples on earth will be blessed through you"(Gen.12:3). “I will also make you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring my salvation to the ends of the earth"(Is.49:6). "Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it”(Jon.1:2). Jesus came to this world to carry out the ‘mission’ of God the father. "My food, said Jesus, is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work”(John 4:34). "Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you"(John 20:21). Jesus ‘was sent by’ God the Father to the world to do the will of God. A missionary is a person who ‘was sent by’ someone to carry out the ‘mission’. Jesus was therefore the first missionary sent by God the Father to carry out the ‘mission’ of God.
예수님께서는 한 여인을 만나기 위해서 사마리아의 수가성으로 가셨습니다. 하나님의 ‘선교’를 수행하시기 위해서였습니다. “나의 양식은 나를 보내신 이의 뜻을 행하며 그의 일을 온전히 이루는 이것이니라”(요4:34). 예수님께서는 제자들에게 하나님의 ‘선교’를 수행하기 위해서 땅끝으로 가라고 분부하셨습니다. "아버지께서 나를 보내신 것 같이 나도 너희를 보내노라”(요20:21). 예수님께서는 나중에 베드로에게 ‘선교’를 수행하기 위해서 가아샤라에 그리고 로마에까지 가라고 분부하셨습니다. 그러면 이제부터 “예수님의 선교적 삶과 사역”이라는 제목으로 여섯 가지 조목의 말씀을 드리겠습니다. “예수님의 선교적 삶과 사역”이 무엇입니까?
Jesus went to Sychar, Samaria to meet a woman. It was because Jesus wanted to carry out the ‘mission’ of God. "My food, said Jesus, is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work”(John 4:34). Jesus commanded his disciples to go to the ends of the world to carry out the ‘mission’ of God. “As the Father has sent me, I am sending you"(John 20:21). Jesus later told Peter to go to Caesarea and even to Rome to carry out the ‘mission’ of God. Now I am going to speak about “The missionary life and ministry of Jesus” in six points. What is “the missionary life and ministry of Jesus?”
첫째로, “예수님의 선교적 삶과 사역”은 ‘떠나는’ 것이고 ‘찾아가는’ 것이고 ‘되는’ 것이었습니다. 주님께서는 하늘 집을 ‘떠나’ 세상을 ‘찾아오셔서’ 사람이 ‘되셨습니다’. “말씀이 육신이 되어”(요1:14) 라고 했습니다. 사실 아브라함도 예수님의 제자들도 모두 ‘떠남’과 ‘찾아감’과 ‘됨’의 길을 걸어갔습니다. 저는 부족하지만 11살 때 부모와 고향인 북한을 ‘떠나’ 남한으로 ‘와서’ 남한 사람이 ‘되었습니다.’ 선교는 ‘떠남’이고 ‘찾아감’이고 ‘됨’입니다. 결국 선교는 ‘됨’입니다. 선교는 becoming 입니다. 이것을 가리켜 ‘성육’ 즉 ‘Incarnation’이라고 합니다. 본래 하나님이신 예수님께서 살과 피를 가진 사람이 되신다는 것은 도저히 이해할 수도 없는 놀라운 일이고 불가사의한 일입니다. 그래서 유대인들은 물론 헬라 인들은 하나님께서 사람이 된다는 것은 어리석은 일이고 미련한 일이고 약한 일이고 멸시를 받을만한 일이라고 비난을 했습니다. 그러나 선교는 ‘되는’ 일입니다. 선교는 백인이 흑이이 되는 일이고 흑인이 백인이 되는 일입니다. 서양 사람이 동양 사람이 ‘되는’ 일이고, 동양 사람이 서양 사람이 ‘되는’ 일입니다. 성 프랜시스는 본래 앗씨시의 부유한 포목상의 아들로 태어났지만 일부러 가난한 거지가 ‘되었고’ 일부러 병든 환자가 ‘되었습니다.’ 선교는 나 자신을 포기하고 나와 다른 종류의 사람이 ‘되는’ 것을 말합니다. 예수님께서는 삶에 지친 그래서 목이 마른 수가성 여인에게 복음을 전하시기 위해서 그 여인과 비슷한 모습을 취하셨습니다. 여인처럼 행로에 피곤하여 주저 앉으셨다고 했고 여인처럼 목이 말랐다고 했습니다. 좋은 선교사는 선교지의 사람들과 비슷한 사람이 되는 것입니다. 선교지의 사람들이 먹는 음식을 먹는 사람이고 선교지의 사람들과 비슷한 삶을 사는 사람입니다. 선교는 ‘떠나는’ 것이고 ‘찾아가는’ 것이고 ‘되는’ 것입니다.
Firstly, “the missionary life and ministry of Jesus” was ‘leaving’ ‘coming’ and ‘becoming.’ Jesus ‘left’ the heavenly home, ‘came’ to the world and ‘became’ a man. “The Word became flesh”(John 1:14). Abraham and the disciples of Jesus followed the footsteps of ‘leaving’ ‘coming’ and ‘becoming.’ I ‘left’ North Korea when I was 11, ‘came’ to South Korea and became a South Korean. Mission is ‘leaving’ ‘coming’ and ‘becoming.’ We call this ‘Incarnation.’ It is really remarkable and unthinkable that God the almighty ‘leaves’ the heavenly home, ‘comes’ to the world and ‘becomes’ a human being with flesh and blood. To the Jews as well as to the Greek it was unthinkable, foolish and despising thing. Mission is however ‘leaving’ ‘coming’ and ‘becoming.’ Mission is white peoples’ ‘becoming’ colored peoples as well as colored peoples’ ‘becoming’ white peoples. Mission is western peoples’ ‘becoming’ eastern peoples as well as eastern peoples’ ‘becoming’ western peoples. St. Francis was born as a son of a wealthy man in Assisi and ‘became’ a beggar and a sick person. Mission is denying one’s own being and ‘becoming’ other kinds of being. Jesus took a similar figure to the figure of a Samaritan woman to carry out the ‘mission’ of the heavenly father to save the Samaritan woman. He ‘became’ ‘tired’ and ‘thirsty’. It was because the Samaritan woman was ‘tired’ and ‘thirsty’. A good missionary is a missionary who ‘becomes’ a person similar to the native peoples and who can eat whatever kinds of food which the native people eat and who can live whatever kinds of life which the native people live. Mission is ‘leaving’ ‘coming’ and ‘becoming.’
둘째로, “예수님의 선교적 삶과 사역”은 다른 사람들과 ‘함께 사는’ 것이었습니다. 선교의 모델이 되시는 예수님께서는 본래 하늘에서 성부 하나님 성령 하나님과 함께 그리고 천군 천사들과 함께 영광 중에서 사셨지만 하늘 영광을 떠나 세상에 오셔서 세상의 모든 사람들과 함께 사셨고 모든 죄인들과 함께 사셨습니다. “말씀이 육신이 되어 우리 가운데 거하시매”(요1:14). 선교는 ‘되는’ 것에 그치지 않고 누군가와 ‘함께 사는’ 것을 말합니다. 선교는 ‘dwelling among us’ 입니다. 선교는 ‘성육’의 사건을 본 받아서 리빙스톤이나 슈바이쳐처럼 백인들이 아프리카의 흑인들과 ‘함께 사는’ 것이고 언더우드 선교사 4대 손들처럼 미국 사람들이 한국 사람들과 ‘함께 사는’ 것이고 신홍식 선교사처럼 한국 사람이 태국 사람들과 ‘함께 사는’ 것입니다. 성 프랜시스와 손양원 목사님은 한센 병자들과 함께 살았습니다. 선교는 나 자신의 평안한 삶을 포기하고 불행하고 불쌍한 사람들과 ‘함께 사는’ 것을 말합니다. 예수님께서는 태어나시자마자 어머니 마리아 아버지 요셉과 ‘함께 사셨고’ 나중에는 제자들과 ‘함께 사셨고’ 그리고 세리와 창기와 병자들과 죄인들을 찾아가서 그들과 함께 식사를 하시고 대화를 하시면서 그들과 ‘함께 사셨습니다.’ 예수님께서는 죄인들을 멸시하지 않으시고 자비와 사랑의 손길을 펴셨습니다. 선교는 다른 사람들과 ‘함께 사는’ 것입니다. 독일의 저명한 선교신학자 준더마이어(Sundermeier) 박사는 올바른 선교는 ‘콘비벤츠’(Konvivenz) 즉 ‘함께 사는 삶’ 이라고 정의를 내렸습니다. 선교는 ‘함께 사는’ 것입니다. 나와 다른 누군가와 ‘함께 사는’ 것입니다.
Secondly, “the missionary life and ministry of Jesus” was ‘dwelling together.’ Jesus was before living together with God the Father, God the Holy Spirit and angels. Jesus now came to this world and dwelt with all kinds of human beings and all kinds of sinners. “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us”(John 1:14). Mission is not just ‘becoming’ but ‘dwelling together’ among us. Mission is white peoples’ living together with African peoples just like Livingstone and Schweitzer. Mission is Korean’s living together with Thailand peoples just like the Rev. Shin Hong Shik. St. Francis and the Rev. Son Yang Won left home and ‘lived together’ with the lepers. Jesus was born as a human baby and lived with human mother and human father. Jesus later lived together with his disciples and even with all kinds of sinners. Jesus went to the sinners and ate with them. “While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew's house, many tax collectors and sinners came and ate with him and his disciples”(Matt.9:10). Jesus did not despise sinners but extended hands of mercy and love. Mission is ‘living together’ with others. Dr. Sundermeier a German missiologist defined mission as ‘konvivenz’ meaning ‘living together.’ Mission is ‘dwelling together’ with other kinds of people who are different from us.
셋째로, “예수님의 선교적 삶과 사역”은 다른 사람들과 함께 살면서 다른 사람들을 ‘긍휼과 용서와 사랑으로’ ‘섬기는’ 것이었습니다. 예수님께서 이렇게 말씀하셨습니다. “인자의 온 것은 섬김을 받으려 함이 아니라 도리어 섬기려 하고”(막10:45). “나는 섬기는 자로 너희 중에 있노라”(눅22:27). 예수님께서는 나병환자의 몸을 어루만져주시면서 긍휼과 용서와 사랑으로 ‘섬기셨고,’ 열병환자의 손과 소경의 눈을 어루만져주시면서 긍휼과 용서와 사랑으로 ‘섬기셨고,’ 제자들의 발을 씻어주시면서 온유와 겸손과 사랑으로 ‘섬기셨습니다.’ 모든 병자들과 모든 죄인들을 긍휼과 용서와 사랑으로 ‘섬기셨습니다.’ 주님께서는 자기를 십자가에 못 박는 로마 군인들과 그리고 함께 십자가에 달려 죽어가는 강도에게도 긍휼과 용서와 사랑과 ‘섬김’의 손길을 폈습니다. 예수님께서는 제자들에게 원수를 사랑하고 핍박하는 자를 위하여 기도하라고 말씀하셨습니다. 선교는 ‘함께 사는’ 것이고 모두를 긍휼과 용서와 사랑으로 ‘섬기는’ 것입니다. 성 프랜시스와 손양원 목사님은 모든 종류의 사람들에게 긍휼과 용서와 사랑과 섬김의 손길을 펴면서 선교적인 삶을 살았습니다. 선교는 긍휼과 용서와 사랑으로 ‘섬기는’ 것입니다
Thirdly, “the missionary life and ministry of Jesus” was ‘serving’ with compassion, forgiveness and love. Jesus said as the following. “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many"(Mark 10:45). “I am among you as one who serves”(Lk. 22:27). There were always compassion, forgiveness and love in the heart of Jesus when he served sinners and sick peoples. Jesus touched the body of a leper and served him. Jesus touched the hand of a woman with fever and served her. Jesus touched the eyes of blind men and served them. Jesus washed the feet of the disciples and served them with gentleness, humility and love. Jesus extended his hands of compassion, forgiveness and love even to the Roman soldiers who crucified Jesus on the cross and even to the robbers beside him. Jesus told his disciples to love enemies and even those who persecute them. Mission is ‘serving’ with compassion, forgiveness and love. St. Francis and the Rev. Son Yang Won extended the hands of compassion, forgiveness, love and service to all kinds of peoples and lived the lives of mission. Mission is ‘serving’ with compassion, forgiveness and love.
넷째로, “예수님의 선교적 삶과 사역”은 다른 사람들과 함께 살면서 ‘화해’와 ‘평화’를 이루는 것이었습니다. 예수님께서 구유에 탄생하시고 십자가에 달려 죽으신 목적이 우리 죄인들을 죄와 사망에서 구원하심에 있었지만 궁극적으로는 증오와 분노와 분쟁으로 가득한 세상과 우주에 ‘화해’와 ‘평화’를 가져오는데 있었습니다. 예수님께서는 평화의 왕으로 오셨습니다. “땅에서는 기뻐하심을 입은 사람들 중에 평화로다”(눅2:14). “그는 우리의 화평이신지라 둘로 하나를 만드사 중간에 막힌 담을 허시고 원수 된 것 곧 의문에 속한 계명의 율법을 자기 육체로 폐하셨으니 이는 이 둘로 자기의 안에서 한 새 사람을 지어 화평하게 하시고 또 십자가로 이 둘을 한 몸으로 하나님과 화목(화해)하게 하려 하심이라”(엡2:14-16). 예수님께서는 예루살렘에 모인 삼천 명 가운데 ‘화해’와 ‘평화’를 가져오셨습니다. 성 프랜시스는 예수님의 발자취를 따라서 화해와 평화를 가져왔습니다. 성 프랜시스는 이렇게 기도했습니다. “주여 나를 평화의 도구로 써 주소서 미움이 있는 곳에 사랑을 다툼이 있는 곳에 용서를 분열이 있는 곳에 일치를 의혹이 있는 곳에 믿음을 불의가 있는 곳에 진리를 절망이 있는 곳에 희망을 어둠이 있는 곳에 광명을 슬픔이 있는 곳에 기쁨을 가져오는 자 되게 하소서. 주여 나를 평화의 도구로 써 주소서.” 성 프랜시스는 사람들은 물론 동물들과 식물과도 친밀한 소통을 하면서 화해와 평화를 이루었습니다. 선교는 ‘화해’와 ‘평화’를 가져오는 일이라고 생각합니다. 오늘의 선교가 힘써야 할 일은 무엇보다 ‘화해’와 ‘평화’를 이루는 일이라고 생각합니다.
Fourthly, “the missionary life and ministry of Jesus” was bringing ‘reconciliation’ and ‘peace.’ The ultimate purpose of Jesus’ coming was bringing and fulfilling ‘reconciliation’ and ‘peace’ together with saving sinners on earth. He came as the king of peace. "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests"(Lk 2:14). “For he himself is our peace, who has made the two one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, by abolishing in his flesh the law with its commandments and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new man out of the two, thus making peace, and in this one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility”(Eph. 2:14-16). Jesus brought ‘reconciliation’ and ‘peace’ among the three thousand people gathered together in Jerusalem. St. Francis followed the footsteps of Jesus bringing ‘reconciliation’ and ‘peace.’ St. Francis prayed as the following. “Lord, make me an instrument of peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; and where there is sadness, joy. Lord, make me an instrument of peace.” St Francis tried to bring ‘reconciliation’ and ‘peace’ not only among human beings but also among animals and plants. Mission is bringing ‘reconciliation’ and ‘peace.’ I firmly believe that the kind of mission which the modern world needs badly is the mission which could bring ‘reconciliation’ and ‘peace.’
다섯째로, “예수님의 선교적 삶과 사역”은 ‘함께 놀아주는 것’ 이었습니다. 예수님께서는 어린 아이들과 함께 놀아주셨고 세리와 죄인들과 식사도 하시고 대화도 하시면서 함께 놀아주셨다고 생각합니다. 선교는 설교만 하고 강의만 하고 가르치기만 하는 것이 아니고 ‘함께 놀아주는’ 것이라고 생각합니다. 저는 선교지에서 선교사들 및 현지인들과 함께 놀아준 많은 즐거운 경험들을 가지고 있습니다. 어떤 때는 볼링을 함께 쳤고, 어떤 때는 핑퐁을 함께 쳤고, 어떤 때는 축구를 함께 했습니다. 어떤 때는 선교사들의 자녀들과 여러 가지 게임을 하면서 즐겁게 놀기도 했습니다. 함께 놀아주는 것이 좋은 결과를 가져다 주곤 했습니다. 오래 전에 브라질을 방문한 일이 있었습니다. 이틀 동안 밤마다 강성철 선교사와 총신 제자 한 사람과 젊은 초년생 선교사 한 사람과 밤 늦게까지 볼링을 친 일이 있었습니다. 아주 재미가 있었습니다. 그런데 내가 생각지도 못한 한 가지 사실을 발견했습니다. 그 젊은 초년생 선교사가 많은 스트레스와 좌절을 경험하며 선교지를 떠날 생각을 하고 있었는데 스승인 나하고 이틀 동안 볼링을 치고 나서 위로와 격려와 힘을 얻었다는 이야기를 들었습니다. 결국 새로운 용기를 가지고 선교지를 떠나지 않고 선교에 임하게 되었다는 반가운 말을 들었습니다. 한번은 러시아의 블라디보스톡에서 20여명의 한국 선교사 자녀들과 함께 4시간 동안 여러 가지 게임을 한 일이 있었습니다. 어린이들은 너무 행복해 하면서 많은 격려를 받았습니다. 수년 후에 그들을 다시 만났는데 그 때 일을 기억하면서 저를 아주 반갑게 대했습니다. 한번은 제가 러시아인 목회자들에게 식사 대접을 한 후 저들과 핑퐁을 함께 친 일이 있었는데 그 일로 인해 그들과 아주 가까워졌고 친해졌습니다. 저는 여전히 선교는 “함께 놀아주는 것”이라고 말합니다.
Fifthly, “the missionary life and ministry of Jesus” was ‘playing together’ with others. Jesus was eating and chatting and ‘playing together’ with children and with all kinds of sinners. I believe that mission is not merely preaching, lecturing or teaching, but ‘playing together.’ I have many happy experiences of playing together with missionaries and local people. Sometimes I played bowling. Sometimes I played ping-pong. Sometimes I played soccer. Sometimes I played various kinds of games with children of the Korean missionaries. ‘Playing together’ has brought many happy fruits. Once I played bowling with three young missionaries in Brazil two evenings. I enjoyed very much. Later I found out that a younger missionary was experiencing much stress and despair in the field of mission and he was thinking of going home. After playing bowling with a professor two evenings he came to change his thinking of leaving mission field and going home. He decided to stay in the mission fields. I was very happy to hear the good news. Once I played various kinds of games with about 20 children of the Korean missionaries in Vladivostok about four hours. The children became very happy and much encouraged. Few years later I met them again. They were so much glad to meet me again remembering the times of playing together. Once I took local Russian pastors to lunch and played ping-pong with them. They were very happy and we became closer and friendly. I still believe that mission is not only preaching, lecturing or teaching. Mission is ‘playing together’ with other people.
여섯째로, “예수님의 선교적 삶과 사역”은 ‘제물 되는 삶’을 살다가 ‘제물 되는 죽음’을 죽는 것이었습니다. 선교의 모델이 되시는 예수님께서 ‘제물 되는 삶’을 사시다가 ‘제물 되는 죽음’을 죽으셨습니다. 사실 기독교는 ‘제물 되는 삶’과 ‘제물 되는 죽음’으로 이루어진 종교입니다. ‘제물 되는 삶’과 ‘제물 되는 죽음’이 없이 선교가 이루어진 일은 거의 없었습니다. 1866년 9월 5일 대동강 변에서 27살의 젊은 나이에 순교의 제물이 된 로버트 저메인 토마스 선교사의 ‘제물 되는 삶’과 ‘제물 되는 죽음’이 없었다면 1885년 조선땅에 선교의 역사와 구원의 역사가 시작되지 않았을 수도 있었을 것입니다. 토마스 선교사의 ‘제물 되는 죽음’이 16년 후인 1882년에 조미 수호 통상조약이 체결되게 했고, 그 2년 후인 1884년에는 알렌 의사가 조선에 들어오게 했고, 그 다음 해인 1885년에는 아펜셀라 선교사 부부와 언더우드 선교사가 조선 땅에 들어오게 했다는 사실을 생각하며 한 사람의 ‘제물 되는 삶’과 ‘제물 되는 죽음’이 하나님의 구원 역사의 흐름’에 얼마나 길고도 깊은 고귀한 영향을 미치고 있다는 사실을 생각하면서 놀라움과 감탄을 금할 수가 없습니다. ‘제물 되는 삶’과 ‘제물 되는 죽음’이 구원의 역사와 선교의 역사를 만듭니다.
Sixthly, “the missionary life and ministry of Jesus” was living a ‘life of sacrifice’ and dying a ‘death of sacrifice.’ Jesus the model of missionary lived a ‘life of sacrifice’ and died a ‘death of sacrifice.’ Christianity is the religion of ‘sacrificial life’ and ‘sacrificial death.’ Mission was never accomplished without a ‘life of sacrifice’ and a ‘death of sacrifice.’ The mission in Korea started with a ‘life of sacrifice’ and a ‘death of sacrifice’ of the Rev. Robert Jermaine Thomas, the 27 years old missionary from Wales. He died a ‘death of sacrifice’ at the Dae-dong River in Pyung-Yang North Korea in Sept. 5, 1866. If there were no sacrifice of the Rev. Thomas there could have never been the coming of such missionaries as the Rev. Underwood and Appenzeller in 1885. Mission is living a ‘life of sacrifice’ and dying a ‘death of sacrifice.’ The ‘life of sacrifice’ and ‘death of sacrifice’ create the history of salvation and the history of mission. Mission is living a ‘life of sacrifice’ and dying a ‘death of sacrifice.’
이제 말씀을 맺습니다. “예수님의 선교적 삶과 사역”이 무엇인지에 대해서 함께 생각해보았습니다. 첫째로, 예수님의 선교적 삶과 사역은 ‘떠나는’ 것이고 ‘찾아가는’ 것이고 ‘되는’ 것이었습니다. 나와 다른 존재가 ‘되는’ 것이었습니다. 둘째로, 예수님의 선교적 삶과 사역은 ‘함께 사는’ 것이었습니다. 나와 다른 사람들과 ‘함께 사는’ 것이었습니다. 셋째로, 예수님의 선교적 삶과 사역은 함께 살면서 ‘긍휼과 용서와 사랑으로’ ‘섬기는’ 것이었습니다. 넷째로, 예수님의 선교적 삶과 사역은 ‘화해와 평화를 이루는’ 것이었습니다. 다섯째로, 예수님의 선교적 삶과 사역은 ‘함께 놀아주는’ 것이었습니다. 여섯째로, 예수님의 선교적 삶과 사역은 ‘제물 되는 삶’을 살다가 ‘제물 되는 죽음을 죽는’ 것이었습니다.
지금 한국교회와 세계교회는 너무 이 세상의 정치 경제 문화 음악의 유행에 치우치고 있다고 생각합니다. 선교도 그런 경향에 치우치고 있다고 생각합니다. 목회 사역은 물론 선교 사역도 좀 단순해지고 좀 바보스러워지고 좀 어리석어지는 것이 필요하다고 생각합니다. 모든 사람에 대한 순수한 ‘긍휼’과 ‘용서’와 ‘사랑’을 가슴과 몸과 손발에 지니면 그것으로 족하다고 생각합니다. 모두를 ‘온유’와 ‘겸손’과 ‘따뜻함’으로 품을 수 있다면 그것으로 족하다고 생각합니다. 그리고 모두와 즐겁고 기쁘게 놀아줄 수 있다면 그것으로 족하다고 생각합니다. 이와 같은 선교적인 삶을 살면서 사역을 하는 것이 우리들에게는 불가능할지 모릅니다. 그러나 주님과 우리 신앙의 선배들을 바라보고 또 바라보면 우리들도 조금씩, 조금씩 주님 닮은 선교적인 삶을 살 수 있을 것입니다. 주님께서 저와 여러분들에게 은혜를 베푸셔서 우리들도 주님 닮은 선교적인 삶을 조금씩, 조금씩 살아갈 수 있게 하시고 선교적인 죽음을 죽을 수 있게 하시기를 바랍니다.
Now I summarize what I have spoken about “the missionary life and ministry of Jesus.” Firstly, “the missionary life and ministry of Jesus” was ‘leaving’ ‘coming’ and ‘becoming.’ Secondly, “the missionary life and ministry of Jesus” was ‘dwelling together.’ Thirdly, “the missionary life and ministry of Jesus” was ‘serving’ with compassion, forgiveness and love. Fourthly, “the missionary life and ministry of Jesus” was bringing ‘reconciliation’ and ‘peace.’ Fifthly, “the missionary life and ministry of Jesus” was ‘playing together’ with others. Sixthly, “the missionary life and ministry of Jesus” was living a ‘life of sacrifice’ and dying a ‘death of sacrifice.’
Korean churches are now too much involved in the worldly trends of politics, economies, cultures and music. The Christian mission is now also involved in these trends. I think that the life and ministry of mission today should be more simple and even more foolish. If we carry compassion, forgiveness and love in our heart and body that would be sufficient enough. If we embrace others with gentle, humble and warm heart that would be sufficient enough. If we play together with others with joy and happiness that would be sufficient enough. It might be impossible for us to have such missionary life and ministry. We could, however, have such missionary life and ministry little by little If we look up Jesus our Lord and our forefathers of faith. I really wish and pray that God would pour out his mercies and graces upon us that we could follow the footsteps of Jesus and live a life of mission and die a death of mission.
끝으로 제가 2년 전에 쓴 “나의 소원과 기도” 라는 제목의 글을 읽어드리므로 설교를 마칩니다. “하나님 아버지 나는 죄인 중의 괴수입니다. 나를 불쌍히 여겨주시옵소서. 나의 모든 죄악을 주님의 피로 도말시켜 주시옵소서. 나는 부족하고 부족하지만 주님께서 지극히 작은 자들과 고통 당하는 사람들에게 지극한 관심을 가지시고 찾아가서 어루만지시며 돌아보신 것처럼, 나도 작은 교회들을 찾아가서 위로와 격려의 손길을 계속해서 펴게 하시고 그리고 고통 당하는 사람들을 찾아가서 위로와 격려의 손길을 펴게 하시옵소서! 나는 부족하고 부족하지만 사도 바울과 주님의 제자들을 본받아서 그리고 주기철 목사님과 손양원 목사님을 본받아서 주님과 누군가를 위해서 특히 고통 당하는 북한 동포들과 모슬렘 형제들을 위해서 제물 되는 삶을 살다가 제물 되는 죽음을 죽게 하시옵소서! 미움과 분노와 증오가 있는 곳에 긍휼과 용서와 사랑을 심고 분열과 갈등과 대결이 있는 곳에 화해와 일치와 평화를 심는 작은 거름과 씨앗이 되게 하시옵소서! 유창한 설교나 심오한 신학강의를 하기 전에 주님이 지니셨던 긍휼의 눈물을 지니게 하시고 주님이 품으셨던 사랑의 심장을 지니게 하시고 주님이 지니셨던 죽음의 흔적을 지니게 하시옵소서! 죄인 중의 괴수가 주님께서 흘리신 대속의 피와 순교자들이 흘린 충성의 피를 의지하며 그리고 하나님 아버지의 무한하신 긍휼과 자비와 인자와 사랑을 의지하며 주님의 이름으로 간구합니다. 하나님 아버지! 한국교회와 한국 백성들을 불쌍히 여기시고 북한동포들과 일본 백성들과 모슬렘 백성들을 불쌍히 여겨주시옵소서! 아멘!”(2011.3.29)
Finally I am going to quote “My wish and prayer” which I wrote two years ago. “O God, my father, I confess I am the chief of sinners. Have mercy upon me and wash me thoroughly from all my iniquities through the blood of Jesus. Please let me follow the footsteps of the Lord and let me go to the suffering people and extend hands of comfort and encouragement. Please let me follow the footsteps of the apostle Paul and the footsteps of the Rev. Choo Ki Cul and the Rev. Son Yang Won and let me live a life of sacrifice and let me die a death of sacrifice for such suffering people as the North Korean brothers and Muslim brothers. Please let me become a small fertilizer and seed to bring mercy, forgiveness and love where there are enmity, anger and hatred. Please let me bring reconciliation, unity and peace where there are division, conflict and confrontation. Please do not let me just deliver fluent sermon or profound lecture. Please let me carry the tears of mercy which the Lord carried. Please let me carry the heart of love which the Lord carried. Please let me carry the marks of death which the Lord carried. I pray these things in the name of Jesus relying upon the blood of Jesus and relying upon the mercy and love of God the Father. O God, my father, have mercy upon the Korean church, upon the North Korean people, upon the Japanese and Muslim people”(2011.3.29
