제가 2009년 2월 1일 주일 대한교회에 와서 예배를 드리며 설교를 했는데 오늘 다시 와서 예배를 드리며 설교를 하게 되어서 너무 좋고 감사합니다. 특히 오늘은 외국에서 오신 여러분들과 함께 예배를 드리게 되어서 더욱 더 좋습니다.
It is so good for me to come back here again to worship together with you and to deliver a sermon. It is really wonderful to worship God with foreign brothers and sisters today.
오늘 아침 교회가 어떤 곳인가에 대해서 먼저 간단하게 말씀을 드립니다. 이 세상에서 교회보다 더 귀하고 더 아름다운 곳은 없습니다. 첫째로, 교회는 예수님의 피로 세워진 곳이기 때문입니다. “하나님이 자기 피로 사신 교회를 치게 하셨느니라”(행20:28). 둘째로, 교회는 하나님의 눈과 귀와 마음이 향하시는 곳이기 때문입니다. “이곳에서 하는 기도에 내가 눈을 들고 귀를 기울이리니 이는 내가 이미 이 전을 택하고 거룩하게 하여 내 이름으로 여기 영영히 있게 하였음이라 내 눈과 내 마음이 항상 여기 있으리라”(대하7:15,16). 셋째로, 교회는 죄 사함과 구원의 은혜가 주어지는 곳이기 때문입니다. “내 이름으로 일컫는 내 백성이 기도하여 내 얼굴을 구하면 내가 하늘에서 듣고 그 죄를 사하고 그 땅을 고칠찌라”(대하7:14). “주께서 구원 받는 사람을 날마다 더하게 하시니라”(행2:47). 넷째로 교회는 성도의 아름다운 교제와 성도의 아름다운 봉사가 있는 곳이기 때문입니다. “저희가 사도의 가르침을 받아 서로 교제하며 떡을 떼며 기도하기를 전혀 힘쓰니라 믿는 사람이 다 함께 있어 모든 물건을 서로 통용하고 또 재산과 소유를 팔아 각 사람의 필요를 따라 나눠 주고”(행2:42,44,45).
This morning I am going to speak about briefly what the church is like. There is no place more precious and more beautiful than the church in the world. It is because firstly the church is built by the blood of Jesus. It is because secondly the eyes, ears and mind of God are directing towards the church. It is because thirdly the grace of forgiveness of sin and salvation are given in the church. It is because fourthly there are beautiful fellowship of believers and the beautiful services of believers in the church.
그러면 이제부터 “아름다운 교회, 안디옥 교회”라는 제목으로 말씀을 드리겠습니다. 이 세상에 있는 교회들이 다 아름다운 교회는 아닙니다. 고린도 교회도 에베소 교회도 사데 교회도 라오디게아 교회도 아름다운 교회는 아니었습니다. 안디옥 교회와 서머나 교회와 빌라델비아 교회와 빌립보 교회와 데살로니가 교회는 아름다운 교회였습니다. 그러면 아름다운 교회들 중의 하나인 안디옥 교회에 대한 이야기를 하려고 합니다. 안디옥 교회는 예루살렘 교회 이후 이방에 세워진 첫 번째 교회였는데 주님의 뜻을 이룬 아름다운 교회였습니다. 그러면 지금부터 안디옥 교회의 아름다운 특징 다섯 가지에 대해서 말씀을 드리겠습니다.
Now I am going to speak about “the beautiful Antioch church.” The churches in the world are not necessarily all beautiful. The Corinthian church, the Ephesus church, the Sardis church, the Laodicea church were not beautiful churches. The Antioch church, the Smyrna church, the Philadelphia church, the Philippian church were all beautiful. Now I am going to speak about “the beautiful Antioch church. The Antioch church was the first foreign gentile church after the Jerusalem church. The Antioch church was a beautiful church which fulfilled the will of the Lord. Now I am going to point out the five beautiful characteristics of the Antioch church.
첫째로 안디옥 교회는 다양한 종류의 사람들이 함께 모인 다 인종 교회였습니다. “흩어진 자들이 안디옥까지 이르러 도를 유대인에게만 전하는데 그 중에 몇 사람이 안디옥에 이르러 헬라인에게도 말하여 주 예수를 전파하니”(행11:19,20). “안디옥 교회에 선지자들과 교사들이 있으니 곧 바나바와 니게르라 하는 시므온과 구레네 사람 루기오와 분봉왕 헤롯의 젖동생 마나엔과 및 사울이라”(행13:1). 안디옥 교회에는 유대인들도 있었고 헬라인들도 있었고 아프리카 출신의 흑인들도 있었습니다. 안디옥 교회는 다양한 종류의 사람들이 함께 모인 다 인종 교회였는데 그것이 바로 하나님께서 처음부터 계획하시고 소원하셨던 것이었습니다. 예수님께서 이 땅에 오신 목적의 하나는 인간들 사이에 존재하는 인종적 장벽과 문화적 장벽을 깨트리고 하나를 이루시는 일이었는데, 안디옥 교회는 여러 종류의 사람들이 함께 모이므로 주님의 뜻을 이룬 아름다운 교회였습니다.
Firstly the Antioch church was a multi racial church gathered by various kinds of people. “Now those who had been scattered by the persecution traveled as far as Antioch, telling the message only to Jews. Some of them, however, went to Antioch and began to speak to Greeks also”(Acts11:19,20). “In the church at Antioch there were prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen (who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch) and Saul”(Acts13:1). In the Antioch church there were Jews, Greeks and black people afrom Africa. The Antioch church was a a multi-racial church gathered by various kinds of people. And that was the plan and wish of God from the beginning. One of the purposes of Jesus’ coming to the world was to break the walls of races as well as the walls of cultures and to make them one. The Antioch church was a beautiful church of multi races and multi cultures fulfilling the purpose of Jesus’ coming.
둘째로 안디옥 교회는 스데반의 순교와 환난의 일로 세워진 교회였습니다. “때에 스데반의 일로 일어난 환난을 인하여 흩어진 자들이 안디옥까지 이르러 도를 전하는데”(행11:19). 안디옥 교회는 환난을 인하여 예루살렘으로부터 흩어진 피난민 신자들이 안디옥에 와서 세운 교회였습니다. 핍박과 순교와 환난은 힘들과 괴로운 일이지만 교회의 씨앗이 되고 뿌리가 됩니다. 환난을 경험한 사람들은 마음이 가난해지고 단순해지고 겸손해집니다. 환난을 경험한 사람들의 신앙은 진지하고 열정적이 됩니다. 예루살렘으로부터 환난을 인하여 흩어진 신자들이 안디옥에 와서 기도와 전도를 열심히 했습니다. 결국 수많은 안디옥 사람들이 믿고 주님께로 돌아 오게 되었습니다. 그런데 그것이 바로 주님께서 뜻하신 일이었습니다. 안디옥 교회는 순교자의 피와 환난으로 세워진 순수한 교회였고 주님의 뜻을 이룬 아름다운 교회였습니다.
Secondly the Antioch church was built through the martyrdom of Stephen and persecutions. “Now those who had been scattered by the persecution in connection with Stephen traveled as far as Antioch telling the message”(Acts11:19). The Antioch church was built by the refuges from persecutions. Persecutions and martyrdom are hard and difficult matters but they become the seed and roots of the churches. Those who went through persecutions become poor in spirit, simple and humble. Their faiths become sincere and warm. Those who scattered from Jerusalem were zealous in prayers and evangelism in Antioch. Many came to believe and turned to the Lord. That was the will of the Lord. The Antioch church was a pure church built through the blood of martyrs and persecutions and a beautiful church which fulfilled the will of the Lord.
셋째로 안디옥 교회는 주 예수님을 전파한 교회였습니다. “안디옥에 이르러 헬라인이게도 말하여 주 예수를 전파하니”(행11:20). 교회는 주 예수님을 전파하는 곳입니다. 사람의 소리를 전파하는 곳도 아니고 세상의 유행을 전파하는 곳도 아닙니다. 사도 베드로가 예루살렘교회에서 전파한 것은 주 예수님뿐이었습니다. “이스라엘 사람들아 이 말을 들으라 하나님께서 나사렛 예수로 큰 권능과 기사와 표적을 너희 가운데서 베푸사 너희 앞에서 그를 증거하셨느니라 그가 하나님의 정하신 뜻과 미리 아신대로 내어 준바 되었거늘 너희가 법 없는 자들의 손을 빌어 못 박아 죽였으나 하나님께서 사망의 고통을 풀어 살리셨으니”(행2:22-24). “이 예수를 하나님이 살리신지라 하나님이 오른손으로 예수를 높이시매 그가 약속하신 성령을 아버지께 받아서 너희 보고 듣는 이것을 부어 주셨느니라”(행2:32,33). “그런즉 이스라엘 온 집이 정녕 알찌니 너희가 십자가에 못 박은 이 예수를 하나님이 주와 그리스도가 되게 하셨느니라 너희가 회개하여 각각 예수 그리스도의 이름으로 세례를 받고 죄 사함을 얻으라 그리하면 성령을 선물로 받으리니”(행2:36,38). 환난을 인하여 흩어진 사람들이 안디옥에 가서 전한 것도 주 예수님이었습니다. 안디옥 교회는 주 예수님만을 전하는 아름다운 교회였습니다.
Thirdly the Antioch church was the church which preached the Lord Jesus. “Some of them went to Antioch and began to speak preaching the Lord Jesus”(Act 11:20). The church is the place which preaches the Lord Jesus. The church is not the place which preaches the voice of man or the fashion of the world. The apostle Peter was preaching only the Lord Jesus in Jerusalem. “Men of Israel, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know. This man was handed over to you by God's set purpose and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross. But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him”(Acts2:22-24). “God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of the fact. Exalted to the right hand of God, he has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear”(Act2:32,33). “Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ"(Acts2:36). "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit”(Acts2:38). Those who scattered by the persecution went to Antioch and preached the Lord Jesus. Antioch church was a beautiful church which preached the Lord Jesus.
넷째로 안디옥 교회는 착한 사람 바나바에 의해서 튼튼하게 성장한 건강한 교회였습니다. “바나바는 착한 사람이요 성령과 믿음이 충만하더라 이에 큰 무리가 주께 더하더라”(행11:24). 믿음도 중요하지만 착함을 구비하지 못한 믿음은 교회에 방해물이 될 수도 있습니다. 성령충만도 중요하지만 착함을 구비하지 못한 성령충만은 교회 안에서 분란을 일으킬 수도 있습니다. 그런데 안디옥 교회는 착한 사람 바나바에 의해서 튼튼하게 세워진 건강한 교회였고 구제 사역에 최선을 다하는 아름다운 교회가 되였습니다. “제자들이 각각 그 힘대로 유대에 사는 형제들에게 부조를 보내기로 작정하고 이를 실행하여 바나바와 사울의 손으로 장로들에게 보내니라”(행11:29,30). 교회가 존재하는 첫째 목적은 물론 하나님께 예배 드리는 것입니다. 그러나 사랑과 구제 사역에 무관심한 예배는 하나님께서 받지 않으신다고 이사야와 야고보와 사도 요한 등이 강조해서 말씀했습니다. 그런데 안디옥 교회는 사랑과 구제 사역에 최선을 다한 착한 교회였고 주님의 뜻을 이룬 아름다운 교회였습니다.
Fourthly the Antioch church was growing healthy through the ministry of a good man Barnabas. “Barnabas was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and faith and a great number of people were brought to the Lord”(Acts11:24). Faith is important but faith without goodness could be a hindrance to the church. Fullness of the Holy Spirit in important but the fullness of the Holy Spirit without goodness could bring confusion to the church. The Antioch church was growing healthy through the ministry of a good man Barnabas and became a beautiful church doing the ministry of charity and relief. “The disciples, each according to his ability, decided to provide help for the brothers living in Judea. This they did, sending their gift to the elders by Barnabas and Saul”(Acts11:29,30). The first purpose of the church is to worship God. But the worship neglecting the ministry of charity and relief is not acceptable to God, pointed out Isaiah, Jacob and the apostle John. The Antioch church was the beautiful church which did her best doing the ministry of charity and relief and thus fulfilled the will od the Lord.
다섯째로 안디옥 교회는 기도하며 금식하는 교회였고 성령의 음성에 민감하며 그 지시에 순종한 교회였고 결국 선교하는 교회가 되었습니다. “주를 섬겨 금식할 때에 성령이 가라사대 내가 불러 시키는 일을 위하여 바나바와 사울을 따로 세우라 하시니”(행13:2). 안디옥 교회는 결국 성령의 지시에 따라 선교사를 파송하고 선교에 총력을 기울인 선교하는 교회였습니다. “이에 금식하며 기도하고 두 사람에게 안수하여 보내니라”(행13:3). 안디옥 교회는 사실 거의 불가능한 일을 했습니다. 갓난 아이들과 같은 초신자들이 믿음의 어머니와 아버지와 같은 바나바와 사울을 안수해서 선교사로 파송하는 일은 거의 불가능한 일이었습니다. 그러나 저들은 성령의 지시에 순종했습니다. 안디옥 교회 성도들의 마음에는 부모 잃는 고아와 같은 석별의 정을 금할 수 없었을 것입니다. 그러나 한 편으로는 하나님의 뜻에 순종하며 모든 것을 하나님께 맡길 때 저들은 말할 수 없는 기쁨을 체험하며 모든 영광을 하나님께 돌렸을 것입니다. 결국 안디옥 교회는 "땅 끝까지 이르러 내 증인이 되리라"는 주님의 마지막 분부를 이루는 도구가 되었습니다. 안디옥 교회는 세계 선교의 기지가 되었고 선교의 중요 후원자가 되었습니다. 안디옥 교회는 주님의 뜻과 분부를 이룬 아름다운 교회였습니다.
Fifthly the Antioch church was the church of prayers and fasting, sensitive to the voice of the Spirit and obedient to the directions of the Spirit and finally became the church doing missions. “As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.”(Acts13:2). The Antioch church was obedient to the direction of the Spirit and set apart Barnabas and Saul and sent them. “And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them, they sent them away”(Acts13:3). The Antioch church did an almost impossible thing. It was almost impossible for the new believers like babies set apart and sent away Barnabas and Saul like their mother and father. They, however, obeyed to the directions of the Holy Spirit. There were definitely sorrow and sadness of separation in their heart just like babies separating their mother and father. On the other hand, however, they must have experienced unspeakable joy of obedience and commitment and returned all the glory to God. The Antioch church became an instrument and channel of fulfilling the last commission of the Lord to be the witness of the Lord to the end of the earth. The Antioch church became the base of world missions and main supporter. The Antioch church was a beautiful church which fulfilled the will and commission of the Lord.
이제 말씀을 맺습니다. 오늘 아침 아름다운 교회인 안디옥 교회에 대해서 설교를 했습니다. 안디옥 교회는 (1) 다양한 종류의 사람들이 함께 모인 다 인종 교회였습니다. (2) 스데반의 순교와 환난의 일로 세워진 가난하고 겸손하고 진지한 교회였습니다. (3) 안디옥 교회는 주 예수님을 전파한 교회였습니다. (4) 착한 사람 바나바에 의해서 튼튼하게 성장한 아름다운 교회였고 사랑과 구제 사역에 최선을 다한 봉사하는 교회였습니다. (5) 성령의 음성에 민감하고 성령의 지시에 순종한 선교하는 교회였습니다. 안디옥 교회는 오늘의 한국교회가 어떠한 교회가 되어야 할지를 분명하게 보여주고 가르쳐주는 모델 교회라고 생각합니다. 글로벌 대한교회가 안디옥 교회와 같이 주님의 뜻을 이루는 아름다운 교회가 되기를 바랍니다.
Now I would like to summarize the message. What were the five characteristics of the beautiful Antioch church? (1) The Antioch church was a multi racial church. (2) The Antioch was built through the martyrdom of Stephen and persecutions. (3) The Antioch church was the church which preached the Lord Jesus. (4) The Antioch church was growing healthy through the ministry of a good man Barnabas and was doing the ministry of charity and relief. (5) The Antioch church was the church of prayers and fasting, sensitive to the voice of the Spirit and obedient to the directions od the Spirit and finally became the church doing world missions. I think that the Antioch church is a model church which shows and tells us clearly what kind of church the Korean churches should be. I hope and pray that the Global Dai Han church becomes a beautiful church fulfilling the will of the Lord just like the Antioch church.
