It is so good for me to come back here again today to meet my dear friends from many different foreign countries and to worship God together with you. I have come here 13 times during the past 10 years since 2010. Today on June 7 of 2020 I have come here 14th time and I am going to deliver a message entitled as “Faith of Sunday observance and worship.” Pastor Gloria (Young Ae) Kim wanted me to deliver a message about “Sunday observance.”
오늘 여기 다시 와서 여러 나라들에서 오신 사랑하는 친구들을 만나게 되어서 그리고 여러분들과 함께 하나님께 예배 드리게 되어서 아주 좋습니다. 제가 2010년부터 지난10년 동안 여기 13번 왔습니다. 오늘 2020년 6월 7일 여기 14 번째로 와서 “주일성수와 예배의 신앙” 이라는 제목으로 설교를 하려고 합니다. 김영애 선교사님이 “주일성수”에 대한 설교를 하면 좋겠다고 말을 했습니다.
The central and eternal faith of Christianity is the faith of worshipping God. The way of worshipping God was observing the Sabbath day holy in the Old Testament times and observing the Sunday holy in the New Testament times. The Ten Commandments of the Old Testament ordered clearly and strongly to keep the Sabbath day holy as the following. “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your animals, nor the alien within your gates. For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.”(Ex 20:8-11).
기독교의 중심적이고 영속적인 신앙은 하나님께 예배 드리는 예배의 신앙입니다. 예배의 방식은 구약시대에는 “안식일성수의 예배”였고, 신약시대에는 “주일성수의 예배”였습니다. 구약 성경의 십계명은 안식일을 거룩하게 지키라고 분명하고 강하게 명령했습니다. “안식일을 기억하여 거룩하게 지키라 엿새 동안은 힘써 네 모든 일을 행할 것이나 제 칠일은 너의 하나님 여호와의 안식일인즉 너나 네 아들이나 네 딸이나 네 남종이나 네 여종이나 네 육축이나 네 문안에 유하는 객이라도 아무 일도 하지 말라 이는 엿새 동안에 나 여호와가 하늘과 땅과 바다와 그 가운데 모든 것을 만들고 제 칠일에 쉬었음이라 그러므로 나 여호와가 안식일을 복되게 하여 그 날을 거룩하게 하였느니라.”(출 20:8-11).
The order to keep the Sabbath holy did not stop in the Old Testament times but continued in the New Testament times. The order to keep the Sabbath holy was not given just for a short while but was given for the generations to come as a lasting covenant. “This will be a sign between me and you for the generations to come. The Israelites are to observe the Sabbath, celebrating it for the generations to come as a lasting covenant. It will be a sign between me and the Israelites forever, for in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day he abstained from work and rested.”(Ex 31:13,16,17). The Sabbath system of the Old Testament was a preparatory sign for the Sunday system of the New Testament.
안식일성수의 명령은 구약시대에 그친 것이 아니고 신약시대에 이어졌습니다. 구약의 안식일 제도는 구약 시대에 잠깐 동안 주어진 제도가 아니라 대대로 지킬 영원한 언약이고 표징이라고 말씀했습니다. “너희는 나의 안식일을 지키라 이는 나와 너희 사이에 너희 대대의 표징이니 이같이 이스라엘 자손이 안식일을 지켜서 그것으로 대대로 영원한 언약을 삼을 것이니 이는 나와 이스라엘 자손 사이에 영원한 표징이며 나 여호와가 엿새 동안에 천지를 창조하고 제 칠일에 쉬어 평안하였음이니라 하라.”(출 31:13,16,17). 구약의 안식일 제도는 신약의 주일 제도의 예포였습니다.
Jesus the son of God said that he was the Lord and accomplisher of the Sabbath. “For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.”(Matt 12:8). Jesus was crucified on the cross on Friday and resurrected in the morning of Sunday one day after the Sabbath and appeared to Mary Magdalene and other women early in the Sunday morning and provided them with comfort, joy and mission. In the evening of the first Sunday Jesus appeared to the ten disciples and provided them with comfort, joy and mission. It was also on Sunday one day after the Sabbath when the Holy Spirit descended and when the Jerusalem church was born. It was also on “the Lord’s day” that is on Sunday when the resurrected Jesus appeared to the apostle John in the island of Patmos.(Rev 1:10).
성자 예수님께서는 자신이 안식일의 주인이시고 안식일의 완성자시라고 말씀하셨습니다. “인자는 안식일의 주인이니라.”(마 12:8). 예수님께서는 금요일 십자가에 달려서 죽으시고 안식 후 첫날인 주일 새벽에 부활하셨고 그리고 첫 주일 이른 새벽에 막달라 마리아와 다른 여자들에게 나타나셔서 위로와 기쁨과 함께 사명을 부여하셨습니다. 안식 후 첫날 저녁 즉 첫 주일 저녁에 부활의 주님께서 사랑하는 제자들 열 명에게 나타나셔서 위로와 기쁨과 사명과 함께 성령을 부여하셨습니다. 성령님께서 강림하신 날도 예루살렘 교회가 탄생한 날도 안식일 다음 날인 주일날이었습니다. 부활의 예수님께서 밧모섬에 유배되어 있던 사도 요한에게 나타나신 날도 “주의 날” 곧 주일이었습니다.(계 1:10).
The apostle Paul clearly pointed out that the first mission of the believers who received the blessings of salvation through the grace and love of God is offering sincerely the “sacrifices of worship” to God. “Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God--this is your spiritual act of worship.”(Rom 12:1). Then the apostle Paul practiced the Sunday observance. The apostle Paul worshipped God together with the believers on the first day of the week preaching and breaking the bread till the midnight.(Acts 20:7).
사도 바울은 하나님의 은혜와 사랑으로 구원의 축복을 받는 우리 신자들이 제일 먼저 하여야 할 사명이 “예배의 제사”를 하나님께 정성껏 드리는 일이라고 분명하게 지적했습니다. “내가 하나님의 모든 자비하심으로 너희를 권하노니 너희 몸을 하나님이 기뻐하시는 거룩한 산 제사로 드리라 이는 너희의 드릴 영적 예배니라.”(롬 12:1). 그리고 사도 바울 자신은 주일성수를 실천했습니다. 안식 후 첫날인 주일날 함께 모인 성도들과 종일 밤중까지 성찬을 하고 말씀을 전하며 예배를 드렸습니다.(행 20:7).
The New Testament advanced further to point out that the “New Testament Sunday” was the preparation for the “heavenly Sabbath.”And the New Testament advised the believers to try to enter the heavenly rest. “Therefore, since the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short of it. Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will fall by following their example of disobedience.”(Heb 4:1,11). The apostle John testified that the heavenly worship of praises and adoration to God the Father God the Son and God the Holy Spirit by all of the saved peoples in the world together with all of the angels and all of the creatures will last forever. “After this I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb….”(Rev 7:9-12). This is the picture of the eternal Sabbath worship or Sunday worship in heaven.
신약 성경은 한 걸음 더 나아가서 “신약의 주일”은 영원한 “천국의 안식일”을 예표하는 것이라고 지적했습니다. 그리고 천국의 인식에 들어가기를 힘쓰라고 권면했습니다. “그러므로 우리는 두려워할지니 그의 안식에 들어갈 약속이 남아 있을지라도 너희 중에 혹 미치지 못할 자가 있을까 함이라 그러므로 우리가 저 안식에 들어가기를 힘쓸지니 이는 누구든지 저 순종치 아니하는 본에 빠지지 않게 하려 함이라.”(히 4:1,11). 사도 요한은 구원함을 받은 지상의 모든 사람들이 천사들과 함께 그리고 생물들과 함께 성부 성자 성령 하나님께 경배와 찬양을 돌리는 “천국의 예배”만이 영원토록 계속하게 된다고 증언했습니다. “이 일 후에 내가 보니 각 나라와 족속과 백성과 방언에서 아무라도 능히 셀 수 없는 큰 무리가 흰 옷을 입고 손에 종려 가지를 들고 보좌 앞과 어린 양 앞에 서서 큰 소리로 외쳐 가로되…….(계 7:9-12). 이것이 하늘에서 드려지는 영원한 “안식일 예배” 또는 영원한 “주일 예배”의 모습입니다.
We could say that the “Sabbath observance” in the Old Testament and “Sunday observance” in the New Testament is an important framework of the divine history of salvation. In the Old Testament God saved and blessed sinners through the system of “Sabbath observance” and in the New Testament God saved and blessed sinners through the system of “Sunday observance.” And in the coming future God will bless us to enjoy the eternal Sabbath praising and glorifying God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. After all the most important, most beautiful and most blessed thing to us who are saved is “Sunday observance and worship.” “The faith of Sunday observance and worship” is the central faith of the Bible and the heart of the Christian faith.
이렇게 볼 때 구약 성경이 가르치는 “안식일성수”와 신약 성경이 가르치는 “주일성수”는 하나님의 구원 역사의 중요한 틀이라고 생각합니다. 구약시대에는 “안식일성수”를 통해서 죄인들을 구원하시며 축복하셨고, 신약시대에는 “주일성수”를 통해서 죄인들을 구원하시며 축복하신다는 말씀입니다. 그리고 앞으로 하늘에서 “영원한 안식”을 누리며 성부 성자 성령 하나님께 찬송과 영광을 세세토록 돌리게 하신다고 말씀했습니다. 결국 구원함을 받은 우리 성도들에게 있어서 지금 가장 귀중하고 가장 아름답고 가장 축복 받은 일은 “주일성수와 예배”를정성껏 드리는 일입니다. “주일성수 예배의 신앙”은 성경의 중심적인 신앙이고 기독교의 핵심적인 신앙입니다.
The history of Christianity teaches us clearly and strongly the “Sunday observance and worship.” The early church fathers taught not to observe the “Sabbath” but to observe the “Sunday.” The Westminster Confession of faith taught firmly and clearly the mission to observe “Sunday observance and worship.” It commanded to keep Sunday holy and not to involve in secular business and recreation. The constitutional law of the Korean Presbyterian Church stressed the importance of practicing “Sunday observance and worship.” Many of our forefathers of faith lived their lives of faith observing the Sunday holy and worshipping God faithfully, lived their lives of faith devoting themselves in early morning prayers, lived their lives of faith loving and serving others and lived their lives of martyrdom and died their deaths of martyrdom. Rev. Kil Sun Joo, Rev. Lee Kee Pung, Rev. Choi Kwon Neung, Rev. Joo Ki Chul. Rev. Shon Yang Won followed such roads.
기독교의 역사는 “주일성수”를 분명하고 강하게 가르칩니다. 초대교회 교부들은 모두 지금은 “안식일”을 지키지 말고 “주일”을 거룩하게 지키라고 가르쳤습니다. 웨스트민스터 신앙고백서는 “주일성수와 예배”의 사명을 철저하게 그리고 구체적으로 가르쳤습니다. 주일을 거룩하기 지키고 세속적인 직업이나 오락에 참여하는 것을 금했습니다. 대한예수교장로회 헌법 예배모범은 “주일성수와 예배”를 실천하면서 살아야 한다고 강조했습니다. 많은 우리 신앙의 선배님들은 “주일성수와 예배”의 신앙을 지니고 살았고, 새벽기도의 신앙을 지니고 살았고, 모두를 사랑하고 섬기는 신앙을 지니고 살았고, 순교의 신앙을 지니고 살다가 순교의 죽음을 죽었다고 생각합니다. 길선주 목사님, 이기풍 목사님, 최권능 목사님, 주기철 목사님, 손양원 목사님들께서 그런 길을 걸어가셨다고 생각합니다.
I confess daily as the followings. Even though I am the worst sinner, God has been so much merciful and blessed my life so much. When I was 11 years old God led me to leave my dear father and mother and led me to cross the 38 boarder line alone at a dark night and led me to come to the South Korea. It was because I wanted to gain the freedom of Sunday observance and worship. The Rev. Kim Kwan Joo, my father, was the pastor serving the Sinuiju Jeyee Church for nine years and the Pyongyang Syumoonbaak Church for two years faithfully. But he was very often imprisoned during both the Japanese and Communist reign and later met martyrdom 2 years after I left North Korea.
저는 날마다 다음과 같은 고백을 합니다. 저는 죄인중의 괴수인데도 불구하고 하나님께서는 저에게 너무 많은 긍휼을 베푸시고 저의 삶을 너무 많이 축복하셨습니다. 제가 11살 때 사랑하는 아버지와 어머니를 떠나 38선을 캄캄한 밤에 혼자서 뛰어넘어서 남한으로 오게 하셨습니다. 제가 주일성수와 예배의 자유를 누리기를 원했기 때문이었습니다. 저의 아버지 김관주 목사님은 신의주 제이교회에서 9년 동안 평양 서문밖교회에서 2년 동안 충성을 다해서 목회를 하셨습니다. 그러나 아버지는 일본 통치시대와 공산통치시대에 아주 자주 감옥에 투옥되곤 하셨는데 나중에는 제가 월남한지 2년 후에 순교를 당하셨습니다.
I think that I have inherited from my father the faith of Sunday observance and worship, the faith of early morning prayers and the faith of martyrdom. When I attended the Pyongyang5th Primary School for 2 years I was punished at school every Monday and often suspended from school. It was because I did not come to the school on Sunday but went to the church on Sunday all day long. I think that I have also inherited from the Sunday school teachers of the Pyongyang Syumoonbaak Church the faith of Sunday observance and worship, the faith of early morning prayers and the faith of martyrdom. It was really grateful and thankful thing.
저는 아버지로부터 주일성수와 예배의 신앙과 새벽기도의 신앙과 순교의 신앙을 물려받게 되었다고 생각합니다. 제가 평양 제 5인민학교를 2년 동안 다녔는데 월요일마다 벌을 받거나 또는 정학을 당하곤 했습니다. 일요일 날 학교에 오지 않았고 일요일 날 종일 교회에 가곤 했기 때문이었습니다. 저는 또한 평양 서문밖교회주일학고 선생님들로부터도 주일성수와 예배의 신앙과 새벽기도의 신앙과 순교의 신앙을 물려받게 되었다고 생각합니다. 얼마나 감사하고 고마운 일인지 모릅니다.
After all I went to the prison outside the city of Pyongyang in order to meet my father. And I told to my father that I wanted to go to the South Korea because it was difficult for me to live the faithful life of observing Sunday holy. My father was looking at me for a while and told me that I may go. My mother who loved me so much and who was often saying “I could not live without you” was crying and told me that I may go. I left home. I was carrying a small bag and took a train and arrived at Haejoo a city near to the border.
결국 저는 아버지를 만나기 위해서 평양 외곽에 있는 사동탄광 감옥을 찾아갔습니다. 그리고 아버지에게 여기서는 주일을 성수하면서 신앙생활을 바로 하기가 힘들기 때문에 남한으로 가겠다고 말씀을 드렸습니다. 아버지는 저를 한참 바라보시다가 “그러면 가라” 라고 말씀하셨습니다. 저를 너무너무 사랑하시던 그래서 “나는 너 없이는 못살아” 라고 자주 말씀하시던 어머니께서는 울면서 “그러면 가라” 라고 말씀하셨습니다. 저는 집을 떠났습니다. 아주 조그마한 가방 하나를 들고 혼자서 기차를 타고 국경 근처의 도시인 해주에 왔습니다.
I was crossing the 38 boarder line with five or six adults at a dark night. We were detected by the North Korean soldiers and we were threatened to be shot unless we stop and hold hands up. All of the adults stopped and held hands up. But I could not stop. It was because I had a clear purpose. I was running alone towards the South for about 40 minutes. I was not afraid at all. I even felt a little bit of thrill. It was because I carried in my heart and body a pure faith and reliance upon God.
저는 5,6명 어른들과 함께 캄캄한 밤에 38선을 넘게 되었습니다. 그런데 우리들은 북한 경비군인들에게 발각이 되었는데 서서 손을 들지 않으면 총을 쏘겠다고 협박을 했습니다. 어른들은 모두 그 자리에 섰습니다. 그러나 저는 설 수가 없었습니다. 분명한 목적이 있었기 때문이었습니다. 저는 남쪽을 향해서 혼자서 달리기 시작했습니다. 40여분 정도 달린 것 같았습니다. 조금도 무섭지 않았습니다. 약간의 스릴까지 느꼈습니다. 하나님만 믿고 의지하는 순수한 믿음을 마음과 몸에 지녔기 때문이라고 생각합니다.
I was crossing the hills, running through the fields of green onions and crossing the river and arrived in South Korea. I entered in a house where more than a dozen of the people were gathered who crossed the 38 boarder line from North Korea. A young man asked me where I was going to. I answered that I was going to Seoul. He asked me with whom I was going. I answered that I did not know because all the adults were arrested. The young man took me to the train and took me to Seoul. I thought that he was an “angel.”
언덕을 넘고 파밭을 달리고 목에 차는 강을 건너서 남한 땅에 이르게 되었습니다. 어느 초가집에 들어갔는데 그날 밤 38선을 넘어 온 사람들 십수 명이 서성거리고 있었습니다. 청년 한 사람이 저보고 어디로 가냐고 물었습니다. 서울로 간다고 대답을 했더니 누구와 같이 가냐고 물었습니다. 저를 데리고 오던 사람들이 모두 붙잡혔기 때문에 모른다고 대답을 했습니다. 그랬더니 바로 그 청년이 저를 기차에 태워 서울에까지 데려다 주었습니다. 저는 그 청년을 “천사” 라고 생각을 했습니다.
In my pocket I carried only the address of my aunt who was living in Seoul. The address was as the following: Seoul Joongku Eulziro 3-7. I hurried up going to the place of the address and I met my aunt. My aunt was surprised to meet me and welcomed me very much. And she arranged that I could live in her house peacefully. I was really happy to gain the freedom of worshipping God freely on Sunday and the freedom of going to the early morning prayer meetings daily and the freedom of carrying the faith of martyrdom in my heart. I was however crying and weeping at night daily for about two years because I missed my mother so much.
저는 주머니에 서울에서 살고 있던 이모님의 주소 하나를 가지고 있었습니다. 주소는 서울 중구 을지로 3가 7번지였습니다. 저는 그 주소지로 달려가서 이모님을 만났습니다. 이모님은 저를 만나자 깜작 놀라면서 저를 아주 반갑게 맞아주었습니다. 그리고 이모님 집에서 편안하게 살게 해주셨습니다. 저는 주일날 예배 드리는 자유와 매일 새벽기도회에 참예하는 자유와 순교 신앙을 마음에 지니고 살게 된 자유를 누리게 되어서 너무 행복했습니다. 그러나 어머니가 보고 싶어서 2년 동안 밤마다 눈물을 흘리면서 울었습니다.
Even though I began to live as an orphan and alien and with sadness and pains, God blessed my life so much. God led me to attend and study at the best schools; the Seoul Middle School, the Seoul High School and the Seoul National University. Later God led me to go to the USA to study at the various theological schools for 12 years without any lacking. I received such degrees as B.D. from Faith Theological Seminary, Th.M. from Westminster Seminary, S.T.M. from Yale Divinity School, Ph.D. from Aquinas Institute of Theology, and Research Associate from Fuller School of World Mission.
저는 고아와 나그네로 슬픔과 아픔을 지니고 살게 되었는데 하나님께서는 저의 삶을 너무 많이 축복해주셨습니다. 하나님께서는 가장 좋은 학교들인 서울중학교와 서울고등학교와 서울대학교에서 공부하게 하셨습니다. 나중에는 미국으로 가서 12년 동안 여러 신학교에서 공부하면서 유학생활을 부족함이 없이 하게 하셨습니다. 저는 훼이스 신학교에서 신학사 학위, 웨스터민스터 신학교에서 신학석사 학위, 예일대학교 신학원에서 신학석사 학위를, 아퀴나스신학원에서 철학박사 학위를 받았고, 풀러신학교선교신학원에서 연구원의 자격을 받았습니다.
God continued to bless my life. God led me to return to Korea and led me to engage in teaching ministries at the theological seminaries, pastoral ministries at the churches and missionary ministries in various places. God allowed me to engage in precious ministries throughout all of my life. While I was engaged in various ministries I always stressed Sunday observance and worship, early morning prayers, fellowship love and service, and reconciliation and peace and unity.
하나님께서는 저의 삶을 계속해서 축복해주셨습니다. 하나님께서는 저로 하여금 한국으로 귀국하게 하셨고 신학교에서 교수사역과 교회에서 목회사역과 여러 곳에서 선교사역을 하게 하셨습니다. 하나님께서는 저로 하여금 귀중한 사역을 평생토록 하게 하셨습니다. 저는 여러 가지 사역을 하면서 제가 귀중하게 여기는 주일성수와 예배, 새벽기도, 교제와 사랑과 섬김, 화해와 평화와 하나됨을 늘 강조했습니다.
While I was engaged in teaching and pastoral ministries after my return from the USA I faced at the problems of Sunday observance and worship. The military government of the President Park Jung Hee began to hinder the freedom of Sunday observance and worship. The military government began to operate official evens such as school examinations, military practices and renewal of the certificate of residences on Sundays. I began to criticize such government policies. My critical comments were reported in the daily news. I send questions whether we could accept such government policies to about 40 Korean church leaders. Almost all of them answered no.
제가 귀국 후 교수사역과 목회사역에 종사하고 있을 때 저는 주일성수와 예배의 문제에 봉착하게 되었습니다. 박정희 대통령의 군사정부가 주일성수와 예배의 자유를 방해하기 시작했습니다. 군사정부가 일요일에 학교의 시험과 군사훈련과 주민등록 갱신 등 공적인 일들을 하기 시작했습니다. 저는 그와 같은 정부의 정책을 비판하기 시작했습니다. 저의 비판적인 글들이 신문에 보도되었습니다. 저는 한국교회 지도자들 40여명에게 그와 같은 정부정책들을 받아 드릴 수 있냐는 질문을 보냈습니다. 거의 전부는 아니라는 답을 했습니다.
I was arrested by the government intelligence officials. In the morning of November 20 1977 two intelligence officials were waiting for me near to my apartment. I did not know who they were. They were very polite. They asked me whether I could visit their company and consult their questions. I said that I did not have enough time to visit their company. I was scheduled to preach at the seminary. They told me it would not take much time. Since I carried easily listening ears, I told them I could go. I got into their nice car. When I arrived at the central intelligence office, I was much surprised.
저는 국가정보부 직원에게 붙잡혀가게 되었습니다. 1977년 11월 20일 아침 정보부의 직원 두 사람이 저의 아파트 근처에서 저를 기다리고 있었습니다. 저는 그들이 누군지 몰랐습니다. 저들은 아주 공손했습니다. 저들은 제가 저들 회사에 가서 자문을 해줄 수 있냐고 물었습니다. 저는 저들 회사에 갈 시간이 없다고 말했습니다. 저는 신학교에서 설교하기로 되어있었습니다. 저들은 시간이 많이 들지 않는다고 말했습니다. 저는 잘 듣는 귀를 가지고 있었기 때문에 그러면 그러면 가겠다고 대답했습니다. 저는 저들의 멋진 자동차를 탔습니다. 저는 정보부 사무실에 도착했을 때 아주 많이 놀랐습니다.
They took me to the small underground room. Two interrogators began to interrogate me severely with threat from the morning till the midnight and one hour more. I was not afraid at all. I rebuked, advised and admonished the two interrogators. One of them was very much angry. When they rested for a while I was writing. They asked me what I was writing. I answered that I was preparing a sermon for the coming Sunday. The two interrogators were much shocked. They asked me how I could prepare a sermon since I did not know when I could go out. I told them not to worry about when I could go out but come to the church to hear my sermon.
저들은 저를 데리고 지하실의 작은 방으로 갔습니다. 두 심문자들은 아침부터 밤 중까지 아니 한 시간 더 저를 심하게 협박하면서 심문했습니다. 저는 단 한 번도 두려워하지 않았습니다. 오히려 심문하는 두 사람을 책망하기도 했고 충고하기도 하고 권면하기도 했습니다. 한 사람은 화를 냈습니다. 저를 심문하던 두 사림이 잠깐 쉴 때 제가 글을 쓰고 있었습니다. 그랬더니 무슨 글을 쓰냐고 물었습니다. 저는 다음 주일 설교를 준비하고 있다고 대답을 했습니다. 저를 심문하던 두 사람이 기가 막혀 했습니다. 내가 언제 여기서 나갈지 모르는데 다음 주일 설교준비는 무슨 준비냐고 따졌습니다. 저는 그 두 사람에게 내가 언제 나갈지에 대해서는 걱정하지 말고 다음 주일 교회에 와서 내 설교를 들으라고 타일렀습니다.
I was able to sleep two hours after midnight. There were neither beds nor bedclothes but only two wooden tables. It was a small underground room without windows. I was able to sleep well till the morning. One of the interrogators awoke me up and told me to go home. I told him I could go home if they arrange a nice car. One of the interrogators stopped a nice car and arranged me to go home well. It was a useful and pleasant experience. Everything was from God’s graces and helps. God was so much graceful and helping to my little faith of Sunday observance worship and so much gracious to the faithful martyrdom of my father, Rev. Kim Kwan Joo.
저는 자정이 두 시간 지난 다음 잠을 잘 수가 있었습니다. 침대도 이불도 없었고 나무 책상 두 개만 있었습니다. 유리 창도 없는 지하실 방이었습니다. 저는 아침까지 잠을 잘 잤습니다. 심문자 중의 한 사람이 저를 깨워서 일어났는데 집으로 가라고 했습니다. 저는 좋은 차를 태워져야 집으로 가지 않겠냐고 말을 했습니다. 그랬더니 심문자 중의 한 사람이 지나가는 좋은 차를 세워주어서 집으로 무사히 돌아오게 되었습니다. 아주 유익하고 재미 있는 경험이었습니다. 모두가 망극하신 하나님의 은혜요 도우심이었습니다. 하나님께서는 저의 부족한 주일성수와 예배의 신앙을 귀중하게 보시면서 도우셨고 저의 아버지 김관주 목사님의 순교신앙을 귀중하게 보시면서 도우셨다고 생각합니다.
When I carried out the pastoral ministry at the Kangbyun Presbyterian Church for 28years I always stressed as valuable the faith of Sunday observation and worship, the faith of early morning prayers, and the faith of fellowship, love and service. I did not stress only by sayings but through lives and practices. Most of the believers of the Kangbyun Presbyterian Church accepted the item of faiths as valuable and tried to practice. I was very much grateful and happy.
저는 강변교회에서 28년 동안 목회사역을 하면서 주일성수와 예배의 신앙과 새벽기도의 신앙과 교제와 사랑과 섬김의 신앙을 귀중하게 여기면서 강조했습니다. 저는 말로만 강조하지 않고 삶으로 실천으로 강조했습니다. 대부분의 강변교회의 신자들은 제가 강조한 신앙의 조항들을 귀중하게 받아드리며 실천하도록 했습니다. 저는 아주 감사하고 행복했습니다.
Now I am going to conclude my message. The faith of Sunday observance and worship is still one of the most important faiths. The faith of early morning prayers is also one of the most important faiths. The faith of fellowship, love and service is also one of the most important faiths. If I could add one more, the faith of poverty, pain and martyrdom is also one of the most important faiths. May God be so merciful, forgiving, benevolent, loving, and gracious to us unworthy sinners that we could live carrying the faith of Sunday observance and worship, the faith of early morning prayers, the faith of fellowship, love and service, and the faith of poverty, pain and martyrdom that we could return glory to God.
이제 말씀을 마무리 합니다. 주일성수와 예배의 신앙은 지금도 가장 귀중한 신앙의 하나라고 생각합니다. 새벽기도의 신앙도 가장 귀중한 신앙의 하나라고 생각합니다. 교제와 사랑과 섬김의 신앙도 가장 귀중한 신앙의 하나라고 생각합니다. 한 마디 추가하면 가난과 고난과 순교의 신앙도 가장 귀중한 신앙의 하나라고 생각합니다. 하나님께서 부족한 죄인들인 우리들에게 긍휼과 용서와 자비와 사랑과 은혜를 베풀어주셔서 우리들로 하여금 남은 생애에 주일성수와 예배의 신앙과 새벽기도의 신앙과 교제와 사랑과 섬김의 신앙과 가난과 고난과
