¡°All things to all men¡± This was the life style of the apostle Paul, the style of his evangelism and missions. One of the basic problems of human beings is being bound or fettered by one¡¯s own thinking, belief, claim and theology. It is therefore easy to become exclusive and self-righteous. The apostle Paul learned the secret of life to admit diversity and harmonize in the school of life. He even learned the secret of life to adjust himself to diverse situations of life. ¡°I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.¡±(Philippians 4:11,12). The attitude of the apostle Paul towards diverse human beings was really diverse, warm and inclusive. ¡°To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the so as to win those under the law. To those not having the law I became like one not having the law, so as to win those not having the law. To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some.¡±(1 Corinthians 9:20-22). Such life style of the apostle Paul was the life style of Jesus the incarnate i.e., the Word becoming flesh. The life style of the incarnate, the rich becoming poor, is really the life style that we Christians should learn throughout our lives.
The life style of ¡°all things to all men¡± is the life style of humility to deny oneself, the life style of warmth to embrace all, and the life style of kindness to extend the hands of help. The life style of ¡°all things to all men¡± is the life style of identity to live together with whatever kinds of people, the life style of intimacy to eat together with whatever kinds of people, and the life style of gladness to play together with whatever kinds of people. It is the life style of gladness to play football or soccer together with the children and to play cards or games together with the adults. I often say that mission is playing together. I learned this lesson from the school of life. I think that becoming a sportsman is one of the best ways to live a life of ¡°all things to all men¡± It is because sportsman could easily go to any place and to play together with any kinds of people. The Rev. Park Chong Soon, the chairman of the World Sports Mission, is a leader of warmth of ¡°all things to all men.¡± He was therefore chairman of the KNCC the somewhat left oriented largest Christian association in Korea as well as the chairman of the CCK the somewhat right oriented largest Christian association in Korea. You sports mission leaders from various Asian countries are the leaders of warmth of ¡°all things to all men.¡± Why do we have to have life styles of ¡°all things to all men¡± Why do we have to live such kinds of lives? It is because we want to follow the footsteps of Jesus Christ and to win some and to save some. We really want to live such wonderful lives of incarnation of ¡°all things to all men¡± just like the apostle Paul through the grace of God. We also want to win some and save some, Thank you very much. I love you and respect you all
